Author Alice Korngold

Alice Korngold

Alice Korngold, President & CEO, Korngold Consulting LLC, provides strategy advisory services and facilitates leadership strategy retreats for board members and executives from multinational corporations and NGOs. Her areas of expertise are strategy and board governance, sustainability/CSR, corporate-NGO partnerships, impact investing, and measurement and ratings.

Korngold advises the Drucker Institute and The Conference Board. Additionally, she advises NGO/nonprofit boards to help them achieve transformational change for strategic and financial success and sustainability. Korngold has also trained and placed several hundred business executives and professionals on NGO/nonprofit boards.

Social entrepreneur. Prior to establishing her global consulting firm in New York in 2005, Korngold founded and ran two highly successful and financially self-sustaining social enterprises.

Author. Korngold authored A Better World, Inc.: How Companies Profit by Solving Global Problems…Where Governments Cannot (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014) and Leveraging Good Will: Strengthening Nonprofits by Engaging Businesses (Jossey-Bass, a Wiley Imprint, 2005). She authored the chapter on “Sustainability and Corporate Governance” in The Handbook of Board Governance: A Comprehensive Guide for Public, Private and Not for Profit Board Members  (May 31, 2016). She is the co-author of a chapter on “Corporate Volunteerism: Strategic Community Involvement,” in Corporate Philanthropy at the Crossroads (Indiana University Press, 1996).  Her most recent article is Better Boards for a Better World, published in Directors & Boards, 2015.

Speaker. In December, Korngold was the luncheon keynote speaker at the Corporate Governance 2015 conference for private companies in Silicon Valley. Earlier in the year, she moderated a panel of global sustainability thought leaders in conjunction with Dow’s launch of their 2025 Sustainability Goals. She also facilitated an all-day retreat for the executives of Conservation International’s business members, including Monsanto, Tetra Pak, HP, Walmart, ExxonMobil, and Shell. Korngold interviewed Muhammad Yunus at the UN 69th General Assembly USAID/DFID MDG Countdown. She has been a moderator at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, which she attended for eight years. She guest lectures at the business schools at the University of Michigan, and Harvard, and addressed a governance conference at Oxford.

Recognition. Korngold was named to The Guardian’s 10 Top Tweeters on Sustainable Leadership: from Al Gore to Sheryl Sandberg, Fast Company’s 25 of the Smartest Women on Twitter, The Guardian’s Twitter List: 20 Women in Sustainability for International Women’s Day 2014, and Guardian Sustainable Business’ Top 30 Most Influential Sustainability Voices. Korngold has blogged for Fast Company, Harvard Business Review, The Huffington Post, and Guardian Sustainable Business.

Education. Korngold received a B.A. in history and an M.S.Ed. in psychological services from the University of Pennsylvania.
