An Ardent Waste-hater Since Age Four

Literally born with a passion for preventing waste, at age four, Jacquie Ottman was nicknamed ‘Junky Jacquie’ by her siblings when she instinctively dragged home board games and other treasures from the neighbor’s trash. Still dragging home finds from NYC’s treasure-troved sidewalks, Jacquie founded WeHateToWaste.com in 2012 to start a movement aimed at helping people everywhere of live smarter by living waste-free.

A New Product and Strategy Expert by Day

For the past 25 years Jacquie has been advising leading consumer product companies, the U.S. government’s Enery Star label, and several not-for profits on on how to encourage greener purchasing and more responsible use and disposal of the products we buy. Learn more about her sustainability work here.

An internationally recognized speaker, she is also the author of four books, including her latest, The New Rules of Green Marketing: Strategies, Tools and Inspiration for Sustainable Branding (Berrett-Koehler, 2011). It was named a Top 40 Sustainability Book by Cambridge University (U.K.) and is required reading by a number of college and grad courses across the U.S. (One of our Waste Watchers, Fredrica Rudell, uses it in her own course at Iona College.)

With WeHateToWaste.com, Jacquie OTTMAN and her colleagues have  the opportunity to bring their expertise and passion directly to likeminded individuals who can share stories and tips and GET TRAINED in how to align with the WeHateToWaste.com ‘No Waste Mindset’.

Recycling is not a panacea - consumers cannot continue to consume at their current rate. We must learn to change to less environmentally impactful forms of behavior.

Marketing and Communications
We have marketers who are inadvertently greenwashing because they don’t know better and more importantly, green claims are not being enforced by government or retailers.
